It has been a long long time since I updated this art blog o' mine, sorry about that. But hopefully the size and scope of this update will make up for its irregularity.<br /><br /><br />First things first, I've been updating and making design changes to my website, so go take a look:<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://www.mayhemgraphics.com/">http://www.mayhemgraphics.com/</a><br /><br /><br />The big news is that the ad campaign for CorelDRAW was launched a couple of weeks ago. I did all the illustrations for the ads including a comic book. Check it out ay <a href="http://www.corel.com/">http://www.corel.com/</a>.<br /><br />Here are some of the illustrations I created for the campaign. This first is a model sheet for te "Artman" character.<br /><br /><br /><p><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 160px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449223854482763282" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/S5-IOXQHrhI/AAAAAAAAAFo/dajRn0poKm4/s320/aman_inks.jpg" />Next are model sheets for the main heroes of the story:to be continued.<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 204px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449224377613091490" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/S5-Is0EHAqI/AAAAAAAAAFw/JJ32C1AsuVY/s320/Burt_inks.jpg" /> I was going to add more but using this blog is too difficult. MY pictures always end up going to the top causing me to reformat the blog every time I add a picture. Annoying. if you know a way to avoid that let me know.</p><p><br /> </p><p><br /></p>Kieron O'Gormanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13211007236416574563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669700211749611062.post-33757793074070766192009-04-26T06:58:00.001-07:002009-04-26T07:31:59.344-07:00Published Illustrator<div>Some cool news this week, I found out that the first game product I did art for was officially published. I created about 28 small illustrations for a series of figure flats (think game tokens). I did the work for a company called Pinnacle. They create roleplaying games using a system called Savage Worlds. I also found out that they want to illustrate soem creature picture for a book about monsters for one of their settings called Solomon Kane. It should be an interesting and challenging job since I'll be painting the creatures.</div><div><br /></div><div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329001902454354210" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 181px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SfRq_vssMSI/AAAAAAAAAFY/ZSyjZ4IHTDA/s320/Figureflats_small.jpg" border="0" /><br /><br />I'm slowly getting more work from publishers. With my stuff being published I should be getting more recognition now. It was definetely nice seeing my name in the credits of the product. A good credit to add to my resume.<br /><div> </div><div>In other news I recently completed the pencils for the cover of the second issue of Bang. I'm planning to paint this one. I have about 4 pages of pencilling to do on issue two and then the inking can begin. So for all of you eagerly waiting for issue 2, all I can say is look for it in the summer!<br /><br /><div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329004646348390002" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 209px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SfRtfdgAfnI/AAAAAAAAAFg/f0WUHrAfvxw/s320/Cover001.jpg" border="0" /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div>Kieron O'Gormanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13211007236416574563noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669700211749611062.post-73318175614883026952009-03-08T07:17:00.001-07:002009-03-08T07:30:11.347-07:00New Stuff<div>Hi All. It seems I can't seem to get the hang of giving regular updates. I've been doing a couple of paying gigs but unfortunately I can really post anything from those gigs yet. I have done some stuff for myself too, and that I can post, starting with this painting I finished on Friday. It is referenced from a photo of Liana K I liked. I think it turned out pretty good.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5310824045284029970" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 204px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SbPWVMvB9hI/AAAAAAAAAFQ/1gx16w9yN2M/s320/liana_wow.jpg" border="0" /> <p>I also re-inked a pencil sketch that I had. I was never happy with the first ink job I did on it.</p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5310822312906049810" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 273px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SbPUwXH7yRI/AAAAAAAAAE4/_X922TMwTxI/s320/Avariss_ink.jpg" border="0" /> <p>I've alsoi been working on the second isue of the Bang comic. Here are a couple of preview pages:</p><br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5310823002873908338" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 207px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SbPVYhdFzHI/AAAAAAAAAFA/bKXtMRlPjS0/s320/pencils_issue2_17.jpg" border="0" /> <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5310823216869490082" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 207px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SbPVk-pnPaI/AAAAAAAAAFI/l4RDmAjQMqw/s320/pencils_issue2_18.jpg" border="0" />I've been sending my art portfolio out to various publishers. I've already gotten one job that way hopefully I'll get more. Hopefully I'll also have another update soon.</p><br /><p></p><br /><p>K.<br /><br /></p><br /><p><br /></p><br /><br /><br /><p><br /></p></div>Kieron O'Gormanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13211007236416574563noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669700211749611062.post-32383829339645493262008-09-17T13:10:00.000-07:002008-09-17T13:26:45.513-07:00Finally! an Update!<div>Hey everyone...well the one or two of you who actually read this....um, maybe no one does...</div><br /><div>Anyway, it's been a while since my last update, I guess July! Well, I've not been idle. Since the Wizard world con I attended the Paradise Con in Toronto. I networked and met a lot of interesting and cool people there. It is always a fun time. I even got a small job out of it working for a publisher in Toronto called Crystal Fractals. It was small job but it is a start. I finished the pages a few weeks ago. I'm not sure if I can post them right now since they've not been published yet. When they are I'll let you know.<br /></div><div>Recently I got to know a local DJ in Ottawa named Chelsea Miller. She works at the radio station Live 88.5 and is the coolest DJ in the city. Anyway, I ended up doing a cartoon of her that turned out really well. She really was happy with it.</div><br /><div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247087860713299314" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SNFmm-sUnXI/AAAAAAAAADU/qvEqLKETiL0/s320/ChelseaMiller_final.jpg" border="0" /><br /><br /><div></div><br /><p>I also just finished the first issue of the western comic <strong>Bang</strong>. I finished the cover today and I think it turned out well with my colours. Overall I am happy with the work I did. I can see areas where I can improve of course, but I think people will like it. The plan is to have it ready for sale by the end of the month.</p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247088493623629282" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SNFnL0d51eI/AAAAAAAAADc/lBGuys40I4w/s320/Cover_1_proof.jpg" border="0" /><br /><p>Well, that's it for now. Hopefully I'll be more regular with updates from now on.</p><p>Cheers,</p><p>K-man out</p><p><br /> </p><br /><div></div>Kieron O'Gormanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13211007236416574563noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669700211749611062.post-36900287890620647202008-07-03T17:48:00.000-07:002008-07-03T18:13:11.742-07:00Wizard World ChicagoI was at Wizard World Chicago this past weekend. I was at Mason Jonson's table, he's the writer that I am working with on a western themed comic called Bang! WE submitted it to a few publishers and I had some review my portfolio. Here is the five-page preview of the comic:<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SG11qqeVm5I/AAAAAAAAACk/ol4LW58h8VY/s1600-h/issue1_page1_let_sml.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218956919008762770" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SG11qqeVm5I/AAAAAAAAACk/ol4LW58h8VY/s320/issue1_page1_let_sml.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SG11qlWdFwI/AAAAAAAAACs/U1CjCOSt4M8/s1600-h/issue1_page2_let_sml.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218956917633521410" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SG11qlWdFwI/AAAAAAAAACs/U1CjCOSt4M8/s320/issue1_page2_let_sml.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="http://bp3.blogger.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SG11rDx8d4I/AAAAAAAAAC0/pKiUIjXMoAU/s1600-h/issue1_page3_let_sml.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218956925801887618" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SG11rDx8d4I/AAAAAAAAAC0/pKiUIjXMoAU/s320/issue1_page3_let_sml.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SG11raiahaI/AAAAAAAAAC8/4sqPmhNTebA/s1600-h/issue1_page4_let_sml.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218956931910763938" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SG11raiahaI/AAAAAAAAAC8/4sqPmhNTebA/s320/issue1_page4_let_sml.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="http://bp3.blogger.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SG11rSC7vFI/AAAAAAAAADE/uLo8q3vUoRs/s1600-h/issue1_page5_let_sml.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218956929631239250" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SG11rSC7vFI/AAAAAAAAADE/uLo8q3vUoRs/s320/issue1_page5_let_sml.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />While I was down I met Liana K from the Ed the Sock show, she's "red". She's really nice and we talked about me possibly doing some work on the comic. I hedged my bet by doing a sketch of the lovely Liana, here's the unfinished version:<br /><a href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SG14CDe7_yI/AAAAAAAAADM/c1IlqjjSi2Y/s1600-h/Poison_LianaK.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218959519882411810" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/SG14CDe7_yI/AAAAAAAAADM/c1IlqjjSi2Y/s320/Poison_LianaK.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />My next show is the Paradise Con in Toronto, July 12-13, hope to see you there!Kieron O'Gormanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13211007236416574563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669700211749611062.post-86903051851336435152008-06-20T06:37:00.001-07:002008-06-20T06:45:29.839-07:00Business CardI'm still working away on my Old West Comic, I will post pages from it soon. I used to go pretty regularily but about 2 years ago I stopped going to it. I decided to start again and have really been enjoying it. Here are some samples from the last few sessions.<br /><a href="http://www.mayhemgraphics.com/Art/sketches/lifedrawing/20080326_01.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.mayhemgraphics.com/Art/sketches/lifedrawing/20080326_01.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.mayhemgraphics.com/Art/sketches/lifedrawing/20080404_01.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.mayhemgraphics.com/Art/sketches/lifedrawing/20080404_01.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.mayhemgraphics.com/Art/sketches/lifedrawing/20080416_001.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.mayhemgraphics.com/Art/sketches/lifedrawing/20080416_001.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.mayhemgraphics.com/Art/sketches/lifedrawing/20080404_02.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.mayhemgraphics.com/Art/sketches/lifedrawing/20080404_02.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div> </div><br /><div></div>Kieron O'Gormanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13211007236416574563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669700211749611062.post-65697482352613305532008-04-08T09:39:00.000-07:002008-04-08T10:11:38.087-07:00Getting fit...Well, drawing the pics for a local fitness club here in town. My PC decided to crash a few weeks ago and it took me about a week to get it actually running again. Since then I've been reinstalling apps and software I normally need to do my work. I was finally able to scan some of my work into the computer this week. It's more Subpar character work, this time model sheets for three of the main characters for the 3D modellers to work from. Here they are:<br /><div> </div><div>Iron Oxide</div><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112374249737374562" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/RvLNSypzS2I/AAAAAAAAAAM/ylJW0q5ySFQ/s320/ta_iron_ox001.jpg" border="0" />June Bug</div><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112374455895804786" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/RvLNeypzS3I/AAAAAAAAAAU/XeGH9TjKsx0/s320/ta_junebug001.jpg" border="0" /></div><br /><p>Hype<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112374563269987202" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/RvLNlCpzS4I/AAAAAAAAAAc/XezLh2BM0bg/s320/ta_hype001.jpg" border="0" />I've also working on a collaboration with a writer on a comic. There are a bunch of characters to decide. Here are a couple of concept pages for two of the characters. On eis a gunslinger and the other is a armoured woman named Tigerus Alpha.</p><p>Gunslinger character.</p><br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112375387903708050" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/RvLOVCpzS5I/AAAAAAAAAAk/a4RPxOWavUE/s320/six001.jpg" border="0" /><br />Tigerus Alpha</p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112375632716843938" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_PK7xNXiJAKs/RvLOjSpzS6I/AAAAAAAAAAs/YqPtPnKnW98/s320/tigerus_alpha001.jpg" border="0" /><br /><p></p><br /><p><br /></p><br /><br /><p><br /></p><br /><br /><br /><p><br /></p><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div>Kieron O'Gormanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13211007236416574563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669700211749611062.post-61690935194981978002007-08-31T05:55:00.000-07:002007-08-31T07:04:58.929-07:00Promotional Material<div>I've had a really busy week, but it's over now. I was asked by the guys who are creating the Subpar Heroes game to create promotional pictures for four of the main heroes. Each one displaying one of their powers. I had to hve them all by Wednesday. Luckily my nephew Nick was in town and he was able to help with the colouring. He's quite a good artist himself.<br /><br />First up is Junebug. I love drawing Junebug, she was the first character I designed for the game and I love her costume. She's using her pet insects to swarm some bad guy.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div><br /></div><br /><p><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.mayhemgraphics.com/Art/illustration/junebug_final.jpg" border="0" /></p><br /><p>Next is Iron Oxide giving some one a beat down. Colours by Nick O'Gorman.</p><br /><p><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.mayhemgraphics.com/Art/illustration/iron_oxide_final.jpg" border="0" />Hype is clotheslining a baddie as he whips past him.</p><br /><div><br /></div><br /><p><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.mayhemgraphics.com/Art/illustration/hype_final.jpg" border="0" /></p><br /><div><br /></div><br /><p>The last of the heroes is another favourite of mine, Le Mime! He's trapped a baddie in his force cube. Colours by Nick O'Gorman.</p><br /><p><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.mayhemgraphics.com/Art/illustration/leMime_final.jpg" border="0" /></p><br /><p>This last picture is of a villain that the heroes will eventually fight. The creators told me they wanted an Asian lich that has a ghostly appearance. His name is Mausoleum. </p><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://www.mayhemgraphics.com/Art/illustration/lichvillain_final.jpg" border="0" />Kieron O'Gormanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13211007236416574563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669700211749611062.post-19452167479415524772007-08-16T12:32:00.000-07:002007-08-16T12:41:18.525-07:00Subpar HeroesThings are moving on the Subpar Heroes game (<a href="http://www.subparheroes.com/">http://www.subparheroes.com</a>). As the most active artists I've been promoted to lead artist. I'm going to try and get the other artists organized. If this was a paying gig I would quit my day job, this is an exciting position actually. Unfortunately, it isn't. It is an exciting opportunity though. I'm in charge of drawing the character concepts for the heroes of the game and to draw the web comic. It's a lot of work, especially since I'm doing everything, art, inking, colouring and lettering. I'm trying to find a colourist to help out, it would mke things easier on me.<br /><br />I't's not completely true that there is no money. Technically at the end when its complete and being sold it might actually make money and that money will be distributed amongst the people involved. I've read some literature on the subject and it is unlikely we'll make any money. Of course the real benefit for me is the experience, especially since I'm lead artist. I just need to find out what being a lead artist really means...Kieron O'Gormanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13211007236416574563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669700211749611062.post-52758738900372313862007-08-14T10:23:00.000-07:002007-08-14T10:44:52.370-07:00A BeginningWell this is the first post in my brand new blog. Considering I've never blogged before this should be interesting. I have no idea what to write here, so I'll simply introduce myself.<br /><br />My name is Kieron O'Gorman and I live here in Ottawa. I am in the process of trying to become a comic artist. It's a late start for me, since I am 36 now, but I know I can do it...Actually I am doing it. I'm working on a webcomic currently for an upcoming video game. You can see it here:<br /><br /><a href="http://www.subparheroes.com/">http://www.subparheroes.com</a><br /><br />Check out the Webcomic section.<br /><br />The one thing I'm finding is that it takes a long time to draw, ink, colour, and letter a webcomic when you're working full time. I really wish I could find a decent colourist. Oh well.<br /><br />I also designed the heroes for the game. Most of the character art on the site is mine.<br /><br />I am also in contact with a couple of writers for some comic collaborations.<br /><br />I guess that's all for now,<br /><br />K-man outKieron O'Gormanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13211007236416574563noreply@blogger.com0
